The House and Gardens of Nuestra Señora de Santa Ana
Hernando Aragonés was the first owner of the house and gardens of Nuestra Señora de Santa Ana. In 1616, he was granted land by the State and the Marquesado del Valle.

Multiple Owners
During this period, the property was acquired by various residents of Mexico City, who expanded the land, added water grants, and carried out several modifications.

The Hacienda de Goicoechea is born
The Hacienda de Goicoechea is bornRamón de Goicoechea, a resident of Mexico City, acquired the property. He buys adjacent land from local communities, increases the amount of water allocated to the estate, and expands both the agave fields and corn crops. The estate reached an area of 479,991 square varas (approx. 34 hectares).

1900
Colonial Estate
During the 19th century, the hacienda served as a country house for various owners.
1906
Hotel San Ángel Inn
The estate was eventually acquired by the San Ángel Land Company, an American enterprise that, in 1907, transformed the house into a hotel. The traditional name San Ángel was paired with the English word Inn, giving birth to the name it carries to this day. By 1918, the hotel was under the refined management of Madame Roux.
1937
Declared a National Monument
The original structure of Hacienda de Goicoechea was declared a “Colonial Monument” by the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH).
1955 -
1961
Universidad Iberoamericana
During these years, the hacienda was owned by renowned musician, industrialist, and writer Carlos Prieto. He hosted musical concerts and lent the space to the Jesuits, who used it for the Architecture, Design, and Art History Schools of Universidad Iberoamericana.
1963
The San Ángel Inn Restaurant is born
On June 13, 1963, Restaurante San Ángel Inn officially opened, marking a new chapter in the history of this iconic venue.
